Introduction
Kanan Devi Memorial College of Education, Pangei, Yangdong, Imphal East, Manipur was established in 1992. It was inaugurated on the auspicious day of Maha Sankranti, the 14th January, 1993 by His Excellency Chintamani Panigrahi, the then Governor of Manipur. The college stands in the midst of sylvan an idyllic setting surrounded by the grassy green hills and verdant paddy fields lulled by the murmuring melodies of the vibrant rivulets.
Location
The college is about 8 Km away from Imphal, the capital of Manipur. The environment of the college is noise free and pollution free atmosphere. There are good transportation and communication facilities. Bus, Autos, Jeeps and Cantor serivices are also available near the Gandhi Memorial Hall, Indira Park of Imphal City. The college is connected with NH-39 and NH-150 via Lamlong Bazar and Khuman Lampak Bus Terminal and Stadium approaching towards Imphal Saikul Road via Pangei. It takes hardly 10 to 20 minutes to reach the college campus with cheap fares.
This Teacher Training College is semi-residential with an adequate pucca (RCC) building, hostel, library, laboratories and Canteen facilities within a well fenced spacious campus reigned by serene and calm with a symbolic Peace Memorial of Japanese soldiers who had sacrificed their yesterday for the tomorrows of the Indian and Japanese people. Every year delegates from Japan visited the Peace Memorial. The college not only caters its admission to the students of Manipur hailing from all the districts of Manipur but also provides admission to pre service students from different states of India. The college has a big spacious campus with a playground for games and sports and vehicle parking. It also has its owned summer campus demonstration and practicing Senior Seconday School recognized by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. An urban Winter Practicing School near the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Lamphelpat. Over and above there are 14 government recognized schools for school internship and final practice teaching.
Management and Administration
The college is sponsored and governed by the Manipur Ramakrishna Society, Imphal registered under the Societies Act of 1860 of Government of India under the dynamic leadership of its founder Late Shri Laishram Joychandra Singh the dedicated social worker, renowned journalist, author and project pioneer. The college is run and managed on no profit and no loss basis without any financial assistance from any external funding agency. The college could not get any UGC funding grants under 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act, 1956, as there is not financial assistance from the government of Manipur. The founder members of the College Managing Committee are reputed academicians, journalists, educational adminitrators including some retired Directors of Education, Principal of Teacher Education Colleges.
Recognition conferring body
An Act of Parliament has established the National Council for Teacher Education with a view to improving the quality of Education in particular. NCTE is a statutory body through an Act No. 73 of 1993 of Parliament. It confers recognition to the College of Teacher Education.
Affiliation and Examining Body
Manipur University was constituted under the Manipur University Act, 1990 (Manipur Act of 1980) and came into existence on June 5 1980. It is located in the historic Canchipur in the ruins of the old palace of Manipur in the background within a big campus with beautiful surroundings. The University has its jurisdiction all over the state of Manipur. It has 72 affiliated colleges inclusive of 5 permitted colleges situated at different parts of the state. It is by the side of NH-39 and 7 Km far from Imphal city. Jees, Cantors, Autos are available nearby GM Hall and Kangla Moat with a reasonable fare of Rs. 10 (Vehicle) and Rs. 20 (Rickshaw).
